Swindon’s House of Fraser department store has been listed for closure as part of a rescue plan to save the struggling chain no which is being blamed on changing customer behaviour as a result, House of Fraser are also closing 31 stores around the country.
The closure of the store could effect the Swindon Town centre, as its one of the largest stores in the town centre and also stretches over three floors in the Brunel Shopping Centre.
House of Fraser chairman Frank Slevin said:
The retail industry is undergoing fundamental change and House of Fraser urgently needs to adapt to this fast-changing landscape in order to give it a future and allow it to thrive.
Our legacy store estate has created an unsustainable cost base, which without restructuring, presents an existential threat to the business.
